Helpful Tips for Safety with COVID-19

I wanted to share some tips to stay safe during this time of crisis.

Grocery Shopping practice:

  • Wipe down your cart

  • Commit to what you are buying

  • Don’t shop if you have any respiratory symptoms or have been exposed

  • Plan what you will buy for 2 weeks

  • Limit time in the market

Later….at home

Sanitize your table with any standard disinfectant, see below suggestions and alternatives.

Divide your work space: Clean side/dirty side and clean both with disinfectant.

Set all items on dirty side / after cleaning items and set on clean side

How to clean:

Wipe down all items or remove from boxes

Stray down containers when the spray will not penetrate

Wash or soak fruit/veggies in soapy water

Carry out food

If you choose to order take out….. According to the CDC apparently food doesn’t carry in prepared food? Heat destabilizes the virus so you can also microwave a few seconds or any heat will help. Frozen food may not be safe, can be considered live for up to 2 years.

I realize that some things can not be avoided, that being said below are some highlights from the article shared on ABC7. https://abc7news.com/health/coronavirus-how-to-stay-safe-when-going-out-in-ublic/6042533/

Pumping gas: Carry gloves or tissue to avoid touching the pump and dispose of them immediately

Groceries: Shop on-line and pick up curbside, several local businesses offer this service. Use an app to finalize your purchase to avoid touching the keypad or touching your credit card inside a machine.

Medications: Order on-line to be delivered via mail or FedEx.

Avoid touching high-touch surfaces, ATM, elevator, doors, and handles. Cover your mouth when coughing and avoid touching your face.

Your smartphone may not be a public surface, but it too can harbor bacteria, viruses and other germs. Clean it often with a 70-percent isopropyl alcohol wipe and always carry hand sanitizer with you.
